Tom Hiddleston is opening up about Loki’s return in Avengers: Doomsday.
Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday is currently in production. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, also known as the Russo Brothers, the movie will be released in United States theaters this coming December.
Having played Loki in the MCU since 2011’s Thor, Hiddleston is now once again reprising the character in the new Avengers film. Plot details for the movie remain heavily under wraps at this time; however, Hiddleston opened up about getting to be part of the new ensemble movie when speaking to Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.
What did Tom Hiddleston say about Avengers: Doomsday?
When asked when he knew that he was going to be part of Avengers: Doomsday, Hiddleston said he didn’t know at the end of Loki Season 2 that there were plans to bring his Marvel character back in another movie.
“I didn’t know then, I didn’t know what the plan was,” he said. “I’m trying to think how long I’ve known. It’s kind of [like] various periods of time have merged into one. But it’s very exciting.”
Hiddleston further said that he was happy with what he knows about Loki’s role in Avengers: Doomsday and how he plays into the story.
“I do know some things, I know some things,” he said. “It’s an extraordinary privilege to still be on the team. There are more stories to tell. You know this, but I feel like the character has grown as I have grown. It’s genuinely an honor to still be in the squad.”
Regarding Robert Downey Jr. playing Doctor Doom after previously playing Iron Man in the MCU, Hiddleston said that it’s “remarkable” and “absolutely extraordinary” to see him in this role.
Avengers: Doomsday will be released in United States theaters on December 18, 2026. The sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, follows on December 17, 2027.
