Superman, Batman & Wonder Woman Will Reunite DCU, James Gunn Confirms

James Gunn recently confirmed that Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman will eventually appear together in the new DC Universe. In a recent interview, he hinted at plans for the iconic trio to unite, while clarifying that their team-up won’t happen immediately and will depend on the unfolding direction of upcoming DC projects.

Don’t expect Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman to unite DCU in next movie

Speaking to Deadline, James Gunn responded to a question about whether Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman will unite in the new DCU. “Of course, yeah! But, not in the next movie,” Gunn said. This confirmation comes as the DCU enters a new phase, beginning with Superman, directed by Gunn and starring David Corenswet.

The film will introduce the new Superman and lay the groundwork for the larger DCU. Gunn has previously stated the next movie may not be a direct sequel to Superman, leading to speculation about a World’s Finest-style team-up with Batman. While Batman will debut in The Brave and the Bold, Wonder Woman’s standalone DCU film is currently in development.

Gunn also commented on casting prospects. On Threads, he praised Brandon Sklenar’s performance in 1923, stating, “That show was great.” He also said of Adria Arjona, “She’d be a great Wonder Woman,” after working with her on The Belko Experiment (via Extra TV). These remarks have fueled speculation about their potential casting in the DCU.

Superman has already generated strong box office buzz, earning over $10 million in pre-sales. Industry tracking projects an opening weekend between $95 million and $135 million. The film stars David Corenswet as Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.

Additional characters include Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion), Mr. Terrific (Edi Gathegi), and Metamorpho (Anthony Carrigan). Supergirl, played by Milly Alcock, will also debut ahead of her Woman of Tomorrow film.

Filming for Superman concluded last year. Gunn wrote, “I set out to make a movie about a good man in a world that isn’t always so much… for that I am forever grateful.” All live-action DC movies including the upcoming Superman will be part of the rebooted DCU under Gunn and Peter Safran.

Superman is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 11, 2025.
