Modern dating can be intoxicating at times. For some, it can also be terribly bad — even dangerously so. The trailer for Oh, Hi! shows Logan Lerman and Molly Gordon on an idyllic romantic getaway before it takes a twisted turn.
Oh, Hi! will be screened at the Tribeca Festival on June 13 and 14 and is scheduled for theatrical release on July 25. The upcoming movie, described as a “subversive rom-com,” is written and directed by Sophie Brooks. It is based on a story by Brooks and Gordon exploring the modern dating scene and the emotional repercussions that come with it.
What happens in the Oh, Hi! trailer?
The trailer for Oh, Hi! has some of the qualities of a romantic comedy: a lovely couple, a picture-perfect setting, a vacation, a cozy dinner, and intimate scenes. The first getaway of Lerman’s Isaac and Gordon’s Iris went smoothly — until Isaac blurted out the words often heard in the modern dating era: “I think you’re great. I’m just not really looking for a relationship right now.”
That led Iris to go full-on psychotic, holding the already handcuffed Isaac hostage. Her reason? He made her like him so deeply and, apparently, made scallops. The movie is like Misery if it were an anti-romantic comedy.
You can watch the trailer down below:
“Iris has met her perfect guy, Isaac, and is enjoying their first romantic getaway together — what could go wrong? This clever and charmingly odd dark comedy takes on the highs and lows of modern dating and the ways it makes us all a little crazy,” the logline reads.
The film also stars Geraldine Viswanathan (Drive-Away Dolls) and John Reynolds (Horse Girl) as Iris’s unwilling accomplices. It is produced by David Brooks, Dan Clifton, Julie Waters, Gordon, and Brooks.
Oh, Hi! hits theaters on July 25.
