While filming an intense train chase scene in Apple TV’s Fountain of Youth, John Krasinski wasn’t acting when he limped. The action star revealed that dehydration caused a genuine limp during shooting. So, he had to run like a “tin man” to catch the train.
The actor recently shared in an interview that stunt professionals on set offered him an unexpected solution that quickly resolved his mobility issue.
John Krasinski talks about his Fountain of Youth stunt
John Krasinski is giving his all for Apple TV’s new action thriller Fountain of Youth, including filming a pivotal train scene while having a limp. In a recent chat at Today’s Show, the actor, who plays Luke Purdue in the movie, sat down with co-star Natalie Portman and revealed what happened during the train scene.
The Office star gushed, “That was a real limp. That turns out, dehydration is real.” He added, “My legs locked up, and I run (sic) like a tin man for a train. And I was like, ‘If I miss the train, I will never get to do this again.’ So I did it.”
Natalie Portman, who plays the role of Charlotte Purdue, Luke’s younger sister, recalled what solved Krasinski’s limping issue. She said, “But then you said Coca-Cola solved it?”
To everyone’s surprise, the husband of Emily Blunt confirmed that it was Coca-Cola that saved him. The 45-year-old Emmy-nominated actor noted, “All the stunt guys were like, ‘Just drink a Coke!’ And I was like, ‘Really?’ And it worked. There you go, Coca-Cola”.”
Meanwhile, Apple TV’s action-packed thriller Fountain of Youth will be released on May 23. Guy Ritchie, famous for his works including Snatch and Sherlock Holmes, is the director. The cast features John Krasinski, Natalie Portman, Domhnall Gleeson, Arian Moayed, Eiza González, Laz Alonso, Carmen Ejogo, and Stanley Tucci.
Krasinski disclosed Ritchie is “sweet and bubbly,” but the 56-year-old director assumed that he can do “everything.” The Hollars star shared, “It was kind of like a Jedi mind trick, but he just assumed that I could do everything, and he’s so sweet and bubbly.”
The father of two remembered how the train scene unfolded. He noted, “So he was like, ‘Johnny, we’re going to have a train that’s going to move and you’re just going to run at it and jump on the back.’ And then I was like, ‘Oh yeah, when are we doing that?’ And he’s like, ‘We’re rolling. Here we go!'”
