Sallywood is a new feel-good comedy movie that stars Academy Award nominee Sally Kirkland. Written and directed by Xaque Gruber, the trailer for Sallywood was exclusively revealed by ComingSoon in October 2024. Click here to watch it.
What do we know about Sallywood?
“Sallywood follows Zack (Tyler Steelman), a 20-something aspiring screenwriter from rural Maine, whose lifelong admiration for Sally Kirkland’s Golden Globe-winning performance in Anna propels him across the country to chase his Hollywood dreams. In a serendipitous encounter, he meets Sally herself just days after arriving in Los Angeles,” the official synopsis reads. “When she impulsively hires him as her assistant, Zack discovers her career has taken a nosedive—and takes it upon himself to get her back on the red carpet where she belongs.”
The cast of Sallywood also includes Jennifer Tilly (Bride of Chucky), Eric Roberts (The Dark Knight), Keith Carradine (Dexter), Maria Conchita Alonso (The Running Man), Michael Lerner (Barton Fink), Kay Lenz (House), Lenny Von Dohlen (Twin Peaks), and Tom Connolly (Lost).
Steven J. Wolfe serves as a producer on Sallywood, while Buffalo 8’s Matthew Helderman, Luke Taylor, and Nikki Stier Justice serve as executive producers. The deal for Buffalo 8 to acquire the worldwide distribution rights to the movie was negotiated by Circus Road Films’ Glen Reynolds and Justice. The film has so far collected over 46 awards across the festival circuit.
Justice, who is the head of distribution for Buffalo 8, said, “Sallywood is a witty, heartfelt film that bridges generations, anchored by a standout performance from Sally Kirkland playing a version of herself. It’s a love letter to chasing dreams—whether you’re just starting out or making a comeback.”
A release date for Sallywood has not yet been announced by Buffalo 8.
